Aurora Lagattuta

Teacher

My yoga classroom is a place that fosters a heart-centered connection with oneself. I draw from 15-years of yoga teaching experience, an MFA in Dance and my meditation practice to create a classroom environment that is intelligent, safe, compassionate and transformative. Students can expect poetry woven with anatomical alignment, breath-led movement and storytelling, fluidity and pauses, self-inquiry and humor.

I consider the body as the primary teacher in the room and I aim to privilege the unique felt experience of each student. My motto is to search for connection as opposed to control. I encourage curiosity over rigid dogma. I aspire to create a yoga classroom where movement and breathe can serve as a meeting place, where one can deepen their connection to their body and the wisdom it holds.

I am a teacher, performance artist and a choreographer, who has presented works nationally and internationally since 2006. I make large-scale performances with all kinds of wonderful people, (most of whom do not identify as dancers). I am a 500-hour Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (ERYT), Registered Somatic Movement Educator (RSME), hold an MFA in Dance from the University of California San Diego and I am trained in Stanford’s Cultivate Compassion Meditation Training (CCT) as well as Yin Yoga. I have taught at studios, universities and private institutions to students of various backgrounds, ages and abilities. I believe in the importance sharing movement practices to all body types, ages, stages and identities.

When I started teaching Yoga in New York City in 2007, Yoga was just becoming highly commercialized. In my 15 years in the industry, my teaching and my practice have changed tremendously. I have left the mat and returned to it... a number of times. The transformative effects of breathing, movement and meditation keep bringing me back. I am continually learning from my students, who are also my teachers.  You can learn more about me at https://www.auroradances.org
